Pre-season training to start at Ardingly College on Wednesday

Mark Yates is looking forward to welcoming his new-look squad back for the start of pre-season training on Wednesday.

Reds will be using a new training base at Ardingly College as they begin preparations for the League Two kick-off at Oxford United on August 8.

All four of Mark’s signings so far, Simon Walton, Joe McNerney, Shamir Fenelon and Luke Rooney, will be reporting back along with the remaining members of last season’s squad.

Mark said: “To be honest, since the day I was appointed manager this was a day I was looking forward to. We have worked hard to add some quality to the squad and that will obviously continue over the next few weeks but (assistant manager) Jimmy Dack and I are looking forward to working with the squad for the first time this week.

“The facilities at Ardingly College are excellent and the backroom staff have been working hard for the last couple of weeks to make sure everything is in place so that the players know it’s a fresh start at the club and that they can enjoy their work.

“We will have a few trialists as well. There are a lot of players without clubs at the moment so we are going to have a look while the work to add permanent additions to the squad continues.”

With temperatures set to soar to 30 degrees-plus on Wednesday it is certainly going to be hot work for the players. “Hot, hot, hot,” added Mark. “But it always seems to be like that on the first day of pre-season!”
