Manager Steve Evans was disappointed to leave Broadhall Way with nothing after Stevenage Borough defeated the Reds on Saturday by two goals to nil.

The Reds went down to an early second half goal that keeper Simon Rayner will be disappointed with and an injury time second as the Reds pushed everyone forward in search of an equaliser.

Borough moved top of The Blue Square Premier courtesy of the win but were put under enormous territorial pressure by The Reds in the second half. Four good chances were created but they failed to be taken and Steve Evans men ultimately paid a price.

Steve said; “You need to take your chances when they come and we failed to do that. We got off to the worst possible start in the second half, you just cannot let in a goal like we did at such a crucial time.

“The lads played some great football and we had them rocking and looking nervous but again we carried no luck in front of goal or perhaps we lacked the quality or indeed bravery to stick at least two of those chances away.

“Borough could effect the match with their substitutions, just like Luton Town could last week. With fifteen players in our squad of which Quinn was out injured and Smith only part fit, our  options to make positive change were very limited.

“We face a very good AFC Wimbledon team here tomorrow night (Tuesday) and given we picked up a couple of injuries on Saturday we may need to get a couple of loan players in. I will be speaking to the owners later this morning and I will put it to them but I know who I want in if they sanction it.

“You cannot play the likes of AFC Wimbledon and put kids out against them, that would be a recipe for disaster in such a big match. Most have written our chances off but no one has said that of Wimbledon and should we beat them there will be two points separating us.”
